Octopus Creative is fishing for their newest team addition: a versatile and proactive General IT Specialist to manage and support our IT infrastructure, ensuring smooth and secure operation of systems, networks, and web services. This role will require broad IT expertise, covering server administration, networking, security, cloud platforms, and technical support. If you're tech-savvy, adaptable, and ready to handle a wide range of IT tasks, we’d love to have you join our dynamic team.
What you’ll be doing:
- Server and System Administration:
Manage web servers (Apache, Nginx, IIS) and ensure high availability, security, and performance. Install and maintain both Linux and Windows servers.
- Network Management:
Configure and maintain network components (DNS, DHCP, firewalls, VPNs), ensuring connectivity and secure data transmission.
- Technical Support:
Provide technical support for both hardware and software issues, including troubleshooting desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and network problems.
- Google Workspace Administration:
Handle Google Workspace technical support, including user management, DNS configuration, and troubleshooting email delivery issues.
- Security:
Implement and maintain security protocols across all systems, including SSL certificates, firewalls, and endpoint protection.
- Cloud Management:
Manage cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), and assist with cloud server maintenance, backups, and migrations.
- Automation and Scripting:
Develop scripts in PowerShell, Bash, or Python to automate repetitive tasks and streamline processes.
- Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures, and changes. Report system status and issues to relevant teams.
- Collaboration:
Work closely with other departments (including development and operations teams) to ensure seamless IT integration and support business needs.
What we’re looking for:
Technical Skills:
Web Technologies:
Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and experience with web application frameworks and content management systems.
Server Administration:
Expertise with Apache, Nginx, or IIS; solid understanding of Linux and Windows Server environments.
Database Management:
Experience with MySQL, SQL Server, or other database systems.
Networking:
Strong grasp of networking concepts and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, FTP, HTTP, SSL), with hands-on experience managing firewalls and VPNs.
Security:
Knowledge of web and network security best practices, implementation of SSL certificates, and maintaining secure infrastructure.
Google Workspace Support:
Provide technical support for Google Workspace, including troubleshooting DNS issues, email problems, and managing user accounts. Google Workspace Admin Certification is a big plus. Experience with Microsoft 365 is also a plus.
Cloud Services:
Experience managing cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including setup, configuration, and monitoring.
Scripting and Automation:
Proficiency in PowerShell, Bash, or Python to automate routine tasks and system processes.
Tech Savvy:
Must be proficient with tools such as Slack, Google Meet, LastPass, and other collaboration and security tools.
Soft Skills:
- Problem-Solving:
Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems and provide timely resolutions.
- Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of translating technical issues for non-technical staff.
- Time Management:
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
- Adaptability:
Eager to learn and adapt to new technologies and changing environments, ensuring the IT infrastructure remains future-proof.
- Team Collaboration:
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, contributing to both IT operations and company-wide initiatives.
Additional Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).
- Relevant certifications, such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, MCSA, or Google Workspace Admin, are highly desirable.
- Experience with version control systems like Git is a plus.
- Familiarity with IT asset management tools and practices is a bonus.

Working Hours:
Working hours are flexible but candidates must be available to overlap with business hours (7am to 4pm Pacific Time) for urgent tasks, reporting, and occasional meetings.
